中国国内最早的英译汉诗歌《人生颂》全文

根据钱钟书的考证，他认为中国最早的英汉诗歌翻译应该是威妥玛翻译的朗费罗（Longfellow）的《人生颂》。（钱钟书，《七缀集》，上海古籍出版社1985年12月，138页）

这个译文最早由威妥玛翻译之后，又由当时的户部尚书、后任事于“外交部”（总理衙门）的董恂译为七言。董恂谓Longfellow为“长人”。

这首诗在今天这般纷繁迷惑的时代读起来，无疑是一首励志的人生哲理诗歌。按照钱钟书的话说“例如一个美国学生厌世想自杀，读了《人生颂》后，就不寻短见，生意满腔”。可谓句句是箴言，当与大家共勉。

括号中的应该是当初威妥码的译文，而七言是董恂依威妥玛的汉语所作。各种材料中，威妥玛的译文里，汉语句读的地方与钱钟书先生给出的双语笔录稍有不同。不知道孰是孰非。
